Translating a website may seem complicated, but with the right tools, the process is much simpler than you might think. If you work with WordPress, WPML is one of the most complete solutions for managing multilingual content.
In the following video, you’ll see step by step how to translate a WordPress website with WPML. Don’t miss it!
Let’s go step by step. It may look complex at first, but you’ll see that learning how to translate a WordPress website with WPML is actually very straightforward.
1. Get your website ready: install WPML correctly
The first step is to make sure everything is properly set up in your WordPress site. You’ll need to install two key components:
- WPML Multilingual CMS
- WPML String Translation
To do this, simply go to “Plugins” → “Add New” → “Upload Plugin” and install both. Then follow the setup wizard to complete the configuration.
2. Define your website languages
Once installed, it’s time to configure your languages. From the WPML section, choose your website’s default language and add the languages you want to translate into.
3. Select the content you want to translate
Next, go to the Translation Dashboard. Here you’ll see all your pages and content, and you can select exactly what you want to translate.
You don’t need to select everything at once—you can work step by step.
Once you’ve selected your content, you should:
- Choose the target language
- Select the “Translate it myself” button
- Click on “Translate content”
WPML will automatically prepare everything for you.
4. Export and send for translation
Once everything is ready, go back to the Translation Dashboard and open the Translation Basket.
From there, export the files in ZIP format and send them to us by email so we can take care of the translation.
5. Import the translation and you’re done
Once we send the translated files back to you (also in ZIP format), simply import the file into WPML.
And that’s it—your website will be fully translated without needing to edit anything manually.
A simple process (once you know how)
If you want to make sure your content not only gets translated but actually performs well in other languages, WPML is a great place to start. And when combined with a professional translation team, the results are even more accurate and effective.
Prepare your files, send them over, and let us take care of the rest. It’s that simple: you manage, we translate.
